Wow… What an awesome weekend!
Over 20 Cubs plus us leaders converged on Ebor Park, part of Blue Springs Scout Reserve for the weekend.
Raksha and I went out and did the shopping, gathered together most of the supplies and headed over to open up the camp and get the basics looked after. The two cabins weren’t in the greatest shape, but a little elbow grease and an hour or so after everyone arrived they were spotless.
Saturday Hathi & Bagheera had put in a lot of preparation to create a program so the kids could earn their World Conservation Badge and (more…)
What an awesome day!
So this afternoon we all got together to decorate the float for the cubs, a few of the parents and leaders all made it out so it went fairly quickly. The Beavers put us to shame with an awesome display on their float this year.
Everyone started to arrive around 4:30ish and we started bringing the float around over onto Todd Rd. It was closer to 5:30 by the time our float made it all the way into the parade.
4 leaders and about 15 Cubs had a great time singing Christmas carols along the parade route. The evening was chilly so off and on many of the Cubs hopped off the float to warm up and walk a bit. I think they got quite a kick out of it especially when the float sped up a bit and they had to jog, lol.
We were really fortunate today to be blessed with great weather for the Remembrance Day Parade.
We had a good turn out with over half of the Cubs coming out to walk with the Veterans, Scouts, Beavers, Cadets, and Guides. One of the new Cubs was our flag bearer and did a great job.
The parade proceeded from the Legion through downtown Georgetown then up to the Cemitaph where there was a very nice wreath presentation by many of the vets and their families who have lost loved ones in wars gone by.
I was really impressed with our Pack today, as they were all well behaved and respectful throughout the ceremony.
I really think some of them have a bit of a grasp of the significance of Remembrance Day and what it means to all of us who are free. On Thursday we had the Lorne Scots come in to our meeting (thank you Beavers for letting us link up with you). Hathi put together a really great power point presentation referencing Baden Powell with the Lorne Scots and a bit of their history. The Cubs and Beavers were able to shake the hands of both a Vet and a Soldier who was heading back to Afganistan. The sixers presented the cards they made last week to the soldiers. We were all pretty blown away by the video (Terry Kelly “A Pittance of Timeâ€Â) if you haven’t seen it I highly recommend it.
Thank you to all those who have and who are currently fighting for our freedoms, and to help others around the world to be free of oppression and free to live a life without fear.
On Saturday, Sara, Christopher and I as well as a good portion of our Cub Pack helped out at the 16th annual Georgetown Scout / Guide Food Drive to support the local Georgetown Bread Basket.
We had a really good turn out this year with all the routes out by 11am!
At the end of the day we collected and helped sort approximately 46,000 lbs of food! Way to go everyone!
Hey All,

Sara, Christopher and I are all raising money for the 4th Georgetown Cub Pack (http://www.4thgeorgetown.ca). The funds raised go directly towards the kids outings, camps and help out with all their badges crests and crafts that they do on a weekly basis.
This year is extra special as we are attempting to raise additional funds to assist in paying for the first ever CCCJ’07 (http://cccj07.ca/). That’s the Central Canada Cub Jamboree celebrating 100 years of Scouting. Since this first ever camp includes Cubs from all over Ontario all the way to the Atlantic Ocean, and the camp is local (Acton) we hope to be able to raise (more…)

Woke earlier than normal for a Saturday, Sara, Chris and I headed out for Apple Day! We took two roots went out had some fun and raised some money for the 4th Georgetown Scout Group.
I really wasn’t sure what to expect, being that the last Apple Day I was a part of all we did was stand infront of a store, hand out apples and accost the local patrons for donations to support our group. The idea of going door to door was a bit different. (more…)
So picked up Paul tonight at about 7:45 and off we went to Scouters’ club.
What a disappointment, only 4 of us showed up.. including the two of us! I think part of the reason was due to short notice on the date / time / location this month.
Got some great info though! Looks like they’re going to proceed with the idea of holding it at the Church on Trafalgar and 5 Side Rd. and finally it looks like they are going to pick a date (3rd or 4th Wednesday of each month) and stick with it! Having consistancy should hopefully get some other leaders out and some area participation back into the mix (cross my fingers). (more…)

I started in the Scouting movement at age 5 with the 7th Oshawa Beavers at Athabasca Street Public School. After 3 years of ‘sharing, sharing, sharing’ I transferred to he 37th Oshawa Cubs down the street from our house at Grandview Public School.
After finishing Cubs one of my best friends (Jim) at the time was going into Scouts with the 12th Oshawa Scout Troop at Harmony United Church. I decided to join him and it was some of the best memories growing up I remember.
Jim’s Dad was one of the Scouters and our Skip was Scouter Don. During my 3 years in Scouts I did a lot of camping, learned a whole lot about (more…)
