Cyclebetes - Scouters for a Cure 2010 Team

Scouters for a Cure (l-r) Glen, Larry, Ron, Nancy, Ron, Larry, David

Shortly after 9am Sunday morning with the rain coming down light and steady the 7 of us headed out on our 50km adventure to help raise awareness and $ for Diabetes Research.

Despite the rain, we all had a great ride, though Nancy at times felt left behind by the ‘pack’ =o)

We really had a great ride, and made all the better by the great friends that joined us on our journey.

Here’s a few photos from our day on Facebook.

Can’t wait to do it again next year!

2009 Telus JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes

The Boyds' at the JDRF Walk 2009What an awesome day for the walk this year! We got ourselves up ready and off, arriving at Streetsville Memorial Park around 8:30am. Shortly after our arrival we realized we forgot all our pledges!!!!! Luckily, they have the online numbers at the registration desks and we were able to send in the rest after the walk!

Very cool.. I mentioned to one of the staff that it would be nice to be able to purchase t-shirts for those that don’t get over the $100 in pledges.. eg. Aaron. Well he said “Just a minute,” and went and found one just the perfect size for him! You should have seen the smile, getting his own Walk Shirt!

Christopher also lucked out, they’d run out of his prize (> $250 received a jacket) so he was bumped up to a back pack! No one at his school has one like that now! lol (more…)

Sponsor me in the 2008 JDRF Walk for a Cure

Our family has been very dedicated to this cause for a number of years now.

Both my wife, Berta and son, Christopher have Type 1 Diabetes.

Berta having had Diabetes now for 33 years has been developing many of the complications which can make daily life exceedingly difficult.

Our hope is that through efforts like this and the support of friends, family and collegues a cure can be found so that Christopher may never know the complications that all diabetics face today.

2007 Walk for a Cure

JDRF Walk for a CureThis morning we checked in for the walk just after 9am. The weather was awesome and we had a nice bonus when we arrived they actually had room in the disabled parking this year!

Bert hadn’t been doing very well the past month or so but happily she was feeling good from the start and had no problems all day! She really wasn’t sure she’d be able to make the entire walk. Sara only needed her crutches towards the end of the walk (for those that don’t know she broke her toe three weeks ago.. shouldn’t try to kick your brother =o)). (more…)

Sponsor Ron in the 2007 JDRF Walk for a Cure

JDRF Walk for a CureFor the last 3 years our family has participated in the annual Walk for a Cure to raise money to help find a Cure for Juvenile Diabetes (Type 1 Diabetes).

As each year passes, Berta and Chris struggle to maintain the best control over their blood sugars that they can, and battle the complications and daily routines associated with this major killer.

As many of you know, this past year has been an eventful one. Berta continued to have several vitreous hemorrhages which eventually led to her being unable to see out of her left eye and requiring a vitrectomy.

Good news was that the surgery was a success and she has now regained sight in her left eye. Bad news is is that it’s not permanent, and she’s had to have laser surgery in her right eye now (more…)
