Country Heritage Park

Spring Camp 2009We had an awesome spring camp this year!

Mrs. Bagheera put together an excellent spring camp for us at Country Heritage Park in Milton.

We arrived Friday night (most of us between 7 and 7:30 pm). 12 Cubs, 2 Scouts, 7 Scouters and 1 Trooper.

Camp was set up and we decided to share a pavillion with the 92nd Brampton Guides. Honestly with flush toilets, running (potable) water, electric lights in the pavillion, access to indoors to store our food and supplies… it’s really hard to call it camping lol.. It wasn’t even hard to put in the tent pegs!

On the other side though we can still classify it as ‘roughing it’ as Hathi, Mang and Akela went out of tune on a few songs… Oh and we did sleep in tents and it rained from 2am Friday night off and on through till late Saturday night. (more…)

20080106_wintercubcampb.jpgWhat a great weekend!

The 4th Georgetown Cub Pack held their first ‘Winter Olympics’ this past weekend at Barber Memorial Scout Camp in Guelph, ON.

Mr. & Mrs. Bagheera put together an awesome program for our camp this weekend. The theme was Winter Olympics, the goal was to get every Cub in attendance their Athlete’s badge! It was a great success, the kids really enjoyed themselves too.

4th Georgetown Cleanup CrewWow, what an awesome day! Sara, Chris and I had a ton of fun.

About 40 of us, from 4th Georgetown (Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Venturers, parents and leaders) all met up this morning at St. Andrews United in Georgetown and hiked down to Hungry Hollow to Clean up some of the Silver Creek that runs through the ravine as part of the TD Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup.

The Town of Halton Hills had mentioned that they had done a clean up back in April and they weren’t too sure if it would be worth it. We are glad we went ahead!

Wow! We had an awesome weekend!

Last weekend we had about 75 Cubs and Leaders from Greater Halton get together for a camp at Valens Conservation Area in Cambridge.

We did the camp opening Friday night and successfully executed a traditional Jungle Opening (though it wouldn’t win any awards, lol). (more…)

Wow! what an awesome weekend! (View a photo slide show of the weekend)

Cubs at African Lion SafariOur Cub Pack (4th Georgetown) spent the weekend at African Lion Safari (Cambridge).

Friday Grey Brother headed out late morning to pick our site and begin setting everything up. Bagheera, myself and our families were going to head out mid afternoon to complete the set up. Well Bagheera made it, our brood was running behind but we did get there by 5:00. The rest of the group showed up between 7 and 8. (more…)

Jamboree on the Trail 2007

So we all met up at the entrance to the Limehouse trail and started out on our JOTT.

One of the members of the Limehouse preservation group (sorry the names escape me) met us and gave us a fantastic background on Limehouse and the famous Kilns. Very cool!

After looking at the remnants of various Kilns our guide left us to hike off onto a side trail of the Bruce. Scouter Kevin led the way. I was amazed at how beautiful the area is! We were all blown away by the incredible number of triliums we saw in all hues from pure white to the deep (almost purplish) of red triliums. (more…)

Winter Cub Camp

Wow… What an awesome weekend!

Over 20 Cubs plus us leaders converged on Ebor Park, part of Blue Springs Scout Reserve for the weekend.

Raksha and I went out and did the shopping, gathered together most of the supplies and headed over to open up the camp and get the basics looked after. The two cabins weren’t in the greatest shape, but a little elbow grease and an hour or so after everyone arrived they were spotless.

Saturday Hathi & Bagheera had put in a lot of preparation to create a program so the kids could earn their World Conservation Badge and (more…)

Georgetown Santa Clause Parade

What an awesome day!

So this afternoon we all got together to decorate the float for the cubs, a few of the parents and leaders all made it out so it went fairly quickly. The Beavers put us to shame with an awesome display on their float this year.

Everyone started to arrive around 4:30ish and we started bringing the float around over onto Todd Rd. It was closer to 5:30 by the time our float made it all the way into the parade.

4 leaders and about 15 Cubs had a great time singing Christmas carols along the parade route. The evening was chilly so off and on many of the Cubs hopped off the float to warm up and walk a bit. I think they got quite a kick out of it especially when the float sped up a bit and they had to jog, lol.

Remembrance Day Parade

remembrance day poppyWe were really fortunate today to be blessed with great weather for the Remembrance Day Parade.

We had a good turn out with over half of the Cubs coming out to walk with the Veterans, Scouts, Beavers, Cadets, and Guides. One of the new Cubs was our flag bearer and did a great job.

The parade proceeded from the Legion through downtown Georgetown then up to the Cemitaph where there was a very nice wreath presentation by many of the vets and their families who have lost loved ones in wars gone by.

I was really impressed with our Pack today, as they were all well behaved and respectful throughout the ceremony.

I really think some of them have a bit of a grasp of the significance of Remembrance Day and what it means to all of us who are free. On Thursday we had the Lorne Scots come in to our meeting (thank you Beavers for letting us link up with you). Hathi put together a really great power point presentation referencing Baden Powell with the Lorne Scots and a bit of their history. The Cubs and Beavers were able to shake the hands of both a Vet and a Soldier who was heading back to Afganistan. The sixers presented the cards they made last week to the soldiers. We were all pretty blown away by the video (Terry Kelly “A Pittance of Time”) if you haven’t seen it I highly recommend it.

Thank you to all those who have and who are currently fighting for our freedoms, and to help others around the world to be free of oppression and free to live a life without fear.

Scout / Guide Food Drive

On Saturday, Sara, Christopher and I as well as a good portion of our Cub Pack helped out at the 16th annual Georgetown Scout / Guide Food Drive to support the local Georgetown Bread Basket.

We had a really good turn out this year with all the routes out by 11am!

At the end of the day we collected and helped sort approximately 46,000 lbs of food! Way to go everyone!
